Los Angeles, CA – MACRO Film Studios President James Lopez announced today that Christine Otal has been named Senior Vice President, Production & Development.
 
Otal most recently served as Senior Vice President of Film at Bad Robot Productions, where she worked on STAR TREK IV, the live-action remake of acclaimed anime YOUR NAME at Paramount, THE PINKERTON at Warner Bros, the adaptation of A HOPE MORE POWERFUL THAN THE SEA with Paramount and Amblin, and the adaptation of acclaimed video game PORTAL.

Veteran television executive Jamila Hunter has departed Freeform to take on the role of president of Macro Television Studios.

If the Oscars are a coronation of Hollywood royalty, then last year's Academy Awards marked the ascension of the appropriately named Charles D. King, one of the prime movers behind the movie Judas and the Black Messiah, that made industry history as the first all-Black-produced nominee for Best Picture.

In the midst of the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, MACRO founder and film producer Charles D. King discovered he made history when his film "Judas and the Black Messiah" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2021. King joined forces with filmmakers Shaka King and Ryan Coogler to produce the film, which would become one of the first entirely Black-produced films to receive an Academy Award nomination.

If Charles King’s life were a movie script, no studio would buy it. A young Black man packs up his belongings in a U-Haul, moves to Los Angeles sight unseen with nothing more than a list of names and the drive to become a power player in the entertainment industry.
